'Clerks 3' is actually happening. After originally saying 'Clerks 3' would be a Broadway play, and then a movie, and then an interactive book (?), Kevin Smith has now returned to his first love, movies, and started writing the script for 'Clerks 3': The Movie.

Smith took to his Facebook page last night and had this update on 'Clerks 3' after a flurry of creativity late at night:

THE BEGINNING OF THE END. 20 years ago today, we started shooting CLERKS. 20 years later, with no plan or provocation, I jumped out of bed at 4:20 this morning and started writing CLERKS III. It's been like hanging out with old friends. And after 2 hours of tapping the keys and giggling, I have come to a conclusion... CLERKS III will be the best film I'll ever make.

A coincidence that he "jumped out of bed" at exactly 4:20am?

Smith posted the title page of the script from his computer but as the bottom of the screen notes, it was "Page 1 of 1" so it's unclear how far he actually got. (Maybe he was so stoned, it took him two hours just to type this title page while he giggled uncontrollably.)

So why the sudden change from a play to a book to a movie? It seems star Jeff Anderson (Randal) originally wasn't interested in returning for the film, so Smith was evaluating possibilities of continuing the 'Clerks' "saga" without one of his lead actors. Perhaps Anderson had a change of heart and Smith is now moving full-steam ahead on 'Clerks 3' as a movie.

Or...'Clerks 3' will just be another non-start for Smith who spent a lot of time working on his epic hockey film 'Hit Somebody' that never came to fruition. Smith has said he has one more feature film left in him as a director before he retires and works in other mediums (he's long expressed a desire to take his craft online and be more interactive with his massive audience). Do you want 'Clerks 3' to be that film? Do you think it has the chance to actually be, as Smith says, to be his best film ever?
