Kevin Smith's black and white indie slacker comedy about Dante, a convenience store clerk, and his buddy Randal, a video store clerk, ended with Dante's ex-girlfriend mistaking a dead guy on a toilet in the store bathroom for Dante and being carted off to the hospital, while Dante finally gets to close up shop after working all day when he was supposed to be off. The adventures of Dante and Randal were further explored in 'Clerks 2,' but that might not have always been the case. In Kevin Smith's original ending, the young film student thought that all indie movies were successful due to the death of a beloved character, so just as Dante is closing up the store, a robber comes in and shoots him, leaving Dante dead and no hope for a sequel. Luckily, Smith's mentors advised him that this ending was terrible.
