There may not be new Game of Thrones this year, but at least there’s Comic-Con, right? Wrong. This year you won’t be able to see the cast assemble for cute photoshoots or try their best to dodge spoilers. “OK, fine,” you say, at least you can see the Westworld cast outside of their western gear and donning some modern attire. Sorry, no luck there either.

HBO is skipping San Diego Comic-Con this year, meaning the two biggest shows on television won’t be at the biggest fan event of the summer. Here’s the official statement from the network:

Due to production schedules and air dates for Game of Thrones and Westworld, these series will not be presented at San Diego Comic-Con this summer.  HBO has a longstanding relationship with SDCC, and we are very grateful for the fans’ enthusiastic response over the years. We look forward to returning in the future.

This follows new that Marvel will also be absent from Hall H this year, a decision no doubt to keep those safely guarded Avengers 4 secrets hidden away and to hold off of any Phase 4 announcements. And HBO is likely thinking the same for their two biggest and most twisty shows.

Thrones doesn’t return for it’s much-anticipated final season until next year, and with production still underway it makes sense the show won’t hold a panel. (They better not make us watch a damn block of ice again for though. I refuse.) With Westworld, the second season wraps up in a little over a week, so it would seem appropriate to have the cast discuss the newest season on a panel. But I can only imagine Season 2 will end on a big cliffhanger and confusing-as-heck series of twists, so why not keep their cast and creators from saying too much if they can? A third season has been ordered, but there’s no knowing when it’ll arrive.

Without Marvel or HBO, as well as Starz’ Outlander, also skipping this year, San Diego Comic-Con will be a much less exciting affair. Alright DCEU, you’ve got the floor; now’s the time to bring out Joaquin Phoenix in full Joker makeup.
