The first major bit of news on NBC's forthcoming 'Constantine' TV series broke with the announcement that 'Criminal Minds' Matt Ryan would take the role of the iconic DC demon fighter, and now our new 'Hellblazer' has a supporting cast. 'LOST' and 'The Matrix' franchise star Harold Perrineau has joined in an important new role, along with 'True Blood' star Lucy Griffiths and 'True Detective' player Charles Halford in a role familiar to comic book fans.

Via The Hollywood Reporter, Perrineau will take the pilot role of Manny, an authoritative angel assigned to watch over Constantine who has the power to step into other people’s bodies, frequently getting involved in human affairs against orders to save lives. Griffiths will play Liv, the female lead who teams with Constantine after she is marked for death by a powerful demon, having the ability to see the supernatural world among us.

Finally, Halpert ('True Detective''s memorable baddie Reggie Ledoux) will take the role of Constantine's comic sidekick Chas, the detective's oldest friend and staunch companion, who possesses powerful survival skills that might possibly be supernatural. Worth noting is that the 2005 adaptation with Keanu Reeves cast a young Shia LaBeouf as a re-imagined take on the character, while NBC's version skews much closer to the original comic character.

Neil Marshall will helm the pilot episode of NBC’s ‘Constantine,’ which will be written and executive produced by ‘The Mentalist’ executive producer Daniel Cerone along with DC feature writer David S. Goyer. Marshall previously directed ‘The Descent,’ along with some of the more notable ‘Game of Thrones’ installments, namely “Blackwater” and the always-climactic ninth installment of the upcoming fourth season.

The original John Constantine first appeared in 1985, created by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette and Jamie Delano, and was designed blond, British and with a chain-smoking appearance likened to Police frontman Sting. We've also recently heard that comic Voodoo practitioner "Papa Midnite" will provide a recurring nemesis for NBC's new series, which has yet to garner a formal pickup.

Well, what do you think? Will NBC conjure our best live-action incarnation of 'Constantine' yet? Who would you want to see join the supernatural DC drama?
