Universal and Legendary have released the second full trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak, the director’s new gothic ghost story featuring Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain and a whole lot of crimson on snow — that actually might be the most striking image in the entire trailer.

Just yesterday, the studios released beautiful and haunting new images from Crimson Peak, and today’s trailer really delivers on the promise of that imagery. The gorgeous haunted mansion setting, the detailed period costumes, the spooky and insidious ghost story, and the secrets between brother and sister in this ancient house — it’s all so very romantic and eerie.

The official plot synopsis expands on the notion of Del Toro’s gothic horror romance:

When her heart is stolen by a seductive stranger, a young woman is swept away to a house atop a mountain of blood-red clay: a place filled with secrets that will haunt her forever. Between desire and darkness, between mystery and madness, lies the truth behind Crimson Peak.

But it’s the madness that sounds more intriguing than anything else, as well as that striking image of a wispy ghost slithering around a rocking chair.

Crimson Peak also stars Charlie Hunnam and Jim Beaver, and hits theaters on October 6.
