We’ve heard before of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ and ‘Seinfeld’ creator Larry David’s open HBO invitation to return for another season, but the former series may have the latter to blame for its holdup. A recent interview sees David doubting his return for another season of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ as the ‘Seinfeld’ finale may have soured him on wrapping things up.

Speaking on his new Broadway production of ‘Fish in the Dark,’ David spoke with Bill Simmons on a Grantland podcast covering a wide range of topics, including the unlikelihood of additional ‘Curb’ seasons, as well as negative response to the ‘Seinfeld’ finale. Clarifying that “I guess, right now, the odds would be against it, probably 6 to 1,” David also downplayed any notions of a TV movie wrapping up the series, as:

Well, you know, I got so much grief from the Seinfeld finale, which a lot of people intensely disliked, that I no longer feel a need to wrap things up…I wouldn’t say I’m mad about it, but it taught me a lesson that if I ever did another show, I wasn’t going to wrap it up.

David has noted his own indecisiveness in the past, but we should remember that the ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ creator’s disinterest in wrapping up the series wouldn’t necessarily preclude any additional seasons, only that they’d be structured as a finale. In any case, David’s time off from the series also brought us HBO’s ‘Clear History,’ and as fans of ‘Curb’ will attest, one should never give up hope altogether

What do you think? Are you disheartened by 6:1 odds of another ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ season on HBO?
