As confirmed by that behind the scenes footage that debuted at Comic-Con, we know that Simon Pegg has a cameo role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens — okay, it’s not so much a cameo as it is a minor, unrecognizable background role. It wasn’t long ago that Pegg himself revealed that Daniel Craig is playing a Stormtrooper in the film, but what does Craig himself have to say about that? “F—king hell!”

Well, he actually has more to say on the subject than just that. In an interview with EW, Craig had a pretty hilarious response when asked about the cameo:

Why would I ever bother doing something like that? F—ing hell! Pffft. Play an extra in another movie?

But clearly there’s some sort of jokey back and forth going on between Craig and Pegg (now that’s a buddy cop show I’d watch) in the media because the 007 star pushed the responsibility back on Pegg:

Talk to Simon Pegg. He obviously knows way more than I do. He’s just jealous because he’s not in Star Wars. He’s got some issue with J.J. I don’t know what the f— it is. You need to talk to Simon about it.

…Except Pegg is in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As seen in that behind the scenes footage, Pegg is wearing a big alien costume that will obscure his face, meaning we won’t know exactly which character he’s playing. Obviously Pegg’s appearance in the film is more for his sake than ours.

Back in May, when Pegg was asked if he was playing a Stormtrooper in The Force Awakens, the actor said “I wasn’t a Stormtrooper. Daniel Craig, he was a Stormtrooper,” before very quickly adding, “I shouldn’t have said that.”

So there are two possibilities: First, either Simon Pegg was joking all along about Craig having a similar “hidden cameo” in Star Wars and we’ve gotten caught up in the prank, or Craig actually is in the movie and he’s having fun at everyone’s expense — Pegg’s included.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18. Craig may or may not be one of the dozens of Stormtroopers you see that day.
