It was a few months ago we heard even David O. Russell was getting in on the TV game, flanked by none other than Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore, but the big break is finally here. Not only does the limited series have a two-season order locked up at Amazon, reports suggest it might be a mafia series.

Deadline reports that Amazon paid a whopping $160 million (outbidding FX) for the two-season order, set for eight episodes apiece. Russell will write and direct all episodes of what is being described as “a mafia crime series,” but few other details are available of the project.

At the very least, we know Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison (Joy, American Hustle) is aboard to produce along with Scott Lambert and Alexandra Milchan. The untitled series also marks Russell’s first TV directing gig, so long as we’re still counting Amazon as TV.

It’s likely Amazon will come forth with additional details soon, but should we start polishing the Emmy cabinet already?
