She’s a rock star, a mutant, and a superhero. She is Alison Blaire, known as Dazzler, and she has had no luck getting into one of the X-Men movies so far. In the past there have been rumors that superstar Taylor Swift might appear in the role, and in X-Men: Apocalypse, there was even a very brief cameo for the character, on the cover of a record in a music shop, that wound up getting cut from the finished film.

The poor woman can’t catch a break. But supposedly Dazzler will be a part of the next X-movie, Simon Kinberg’s X-Men: Dark PhoenixEntertainment Weekly says they have learned “Dazzler will pop up [in Dark Phoenix] but only in a small role and there is no plan at the moment to have [Taylor] Swift play her.”

That never seemed realistic to me; Taylor Swift is a much bigger star than Dazzler ever has been (at least in our world; in the world of comics she’s kind of a big deal). If you are a Dazzler fan, I hope you’re reading A-Force, the Marvel comic about an all-female version of the Avengers that features Dazzler as a member. There was even one storyline where she met an alternate universe version of herself who had become her world’s Thor. Now that was cool. X-Men: Dar Phoenix opens in theaters on November 2, 2018.
