Capcom Vancouver is currently working on Dead Rising 3, the upcoming zombie game for Xbox One. While they want players of all skill levels to enjoy it, they're also adding in a difficulty setting that will truly test the mettle of fans of the zombie apocalypse.

According to OXM UK, Dead Rising 3 will bring back some of the difficult restraints from the original game, such as lack of checkpoints and a persistent world in which time continues without your interference. Now, Dead Rising 3 will be accessible to players who want to play casually, but a difficulty setting called "Nightmare Mode" will make it so that the game becomes every bit as challenging as the first Dead Rising.

Producer Mike Jones said, "It's probably the most difficult Dead Rising game we've ever made. We wanted to sort of have our cake and eat it, serve both kinds of gamers."

He goes on to say that you can tailor your experience in Dead Rising 3 according to your own tastes. You can play it as seriously or as goofily as you want, parading around in weird costumes or playing it as a gritty survival horror.

Nightmare Mode will feature survivors with smart AI-controlled behaviors who can be ordered around to guard areas or board vehicles. There is perma-death in the game, so these non-player characters can die for good. It might sound macabre, but the article points out that you can use their deaths to buy you some time as the zombies feed on them. Yeesh.

Dead Rising 3 will launch with the Xbox One on Nov. 22.
