After rewatching Mad Max: Fury Road over the weekend, there were a few immediate takeaways. One, this movie is still awesome, even after multiple viewings. Second, I think we’ve undervalued the score by Junkie XL. The DJ/composer (also known as Tom Holkenborg) contributed perhaps his best work to Fury Road, a compulsive and propelling piece of music that is as important to the success of that film as anything else. And comic book fans should be excited to know that following that film, Junkie XL has now officially signed on to work on Deadpool next.

Holkenborg tweeted out the news over the weekend:

It’s the second major superhero movie from next year that Junkie XL will be a part of, after contributing music to Hans Zimmer’s Batman vs. Superman score (Holkenborg will reportedly be working on Batman’s theme while Zimmer handles Superman).

After a successful career as a big beat DJ, Junkie XL has transitioned nicely into the life of a film composer. In addition to Fury Road, you also heard his work on Johnny Depp’s Black Mass. It’s possible that either of those films could earn Holkenborg his first Oscar nomination.

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool opens in theaters on February 12, 2016.
