James Wan is one of the most prominent horror film directors working today, having successfully scared our pants off with ‘Insidious’ and ‘The Conjuring.’ So we have a lot of faith in anything with Wan’s name attached to it, like the upcoming film ‘Demonic,’ which was originally scheduled for release this past December. And although it doesn’t yet have a new release date, the first trailer definitely has us intrigued (and a little spooked).

Wan produced ‘Demonic,’ which follows a detective played by Frank Grillo and a psychiatrist played by Maria Bello (two fantastic, often underrated actors), who investigate the horrific killings of five college students in a spooky house. The past collides with the present as the pair try to solve the mysterious and brutal deaths of the students, who were attempting to communicate with the spirits in the house. The film also stars Cody Horn, Aaron Yoo, and Dustin Milligan.

‘Demonic’ was written and directed by Will Canon, and based on a story by Wan, who also acts as producer. Wan has become the unofficial king of haunted house horror, and ‘Demonic’ definitely seems like it’s in his wheelhouse. We’ll hopefully see if it measures up to Wan’s previous efforts sometime soon—’Demonic’ was directed way back in February of 2013 and was initially planned for a December 2014 release date, but The Weinstein Company and Dimension canceled the release and have yet to announce a new date.

As for Wan, he recently took a break from horror to direct ‘Fast and Furious 7,’ which hits theaters on April 3. Next, he’ll return to the genre to helm ‘The Conjuring 2,’ currently scheduled for release on June 10, 2016.
