A new 'Despicable Me 2' TV spot premiered at the Kid's Choice Awards last night, which is required knowledge if you want to understand the opening joke about saluting the nominees. The fact that the salute involves bodily functions is just proof that this is a film that knows its audience.

Despite boasting a cast that includes Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Steve Coogan, Russell Brad and Al Pacino, this spot chooses to emphasize the small yellow Minions, the adorable/weird little creatures that feel like they were willed into existence by focus groups but were still a big hit with the kids. If you like farting and chaos and noise and screaming and more farting, you're probably a fan of the Minions and this TV spot has been edited to directly appeal to you.

The first 'Despicable Me' was a big hit back in 2010, so a sequel was inevitable. Considering that Universal is releasing this on July 3rd (AKA, the Fourth of July weekend, AKA, the biggest weekend of the Summer movie season), they apparently have high hopes. 'Despicable Me 2' doesn't just promise a sequel: it's promising an entire series, for better or for worse.
