A beloved detective firm from the mind of Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas Adams is officially shutting down. BBC-A confirms that Max Landis’ take on Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency will not return for a third season after its recent finale.

BBC-A confirmed as much Monday, even as the fan-favorite series only wrapped its second season on December 16. As written by Landis, the series starred Samuel Barnett in the title role, along with Elijah Wood as reluctant assistant Todd, both of whom investigate bizarre mysteries. Said BBC America of the cancellation:

We are beyond proud of this brilliant original series and so appreciative of the outstanding team behind it including Max Landis, Samuel Barnett, Elijah Wood, and many many others. It was a privilege to work with this talented and passionate group of writers, producers and actors on these two seasons of Dirk. Thanks also to the passionate fans who embraced this fantastically novel world.

Dirk Gently also managed to assemble some impressive guest stars over two seasons, including Julian McMahon, Alan Tudyk, Richard Schiff, John Hannah and more, but did the Holistic Detective Agency deserve a third chance?
