Tonight at MTV's VMAs (how do they even have video music awards when they don't play music videos?), the first full trailer for Summit's hot new young adult adaptation 'Divergent' made its debut. The film, starring Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller (both of recent indie 'The Spectacular Now') looks to breathe new life into the genre, much like its predecessor, 'The Hunger Games.' Is this the start of a new franchise? Summit sure hopes so, and this trailer has us hopeful, too.

Following the brief teaser released a few days ago, the first trailer for 'Divergent' expands upon that glimpse of action and gives us a better, in-depth look at Woodley in this new sci-fi young adult film, packed with action, suspense, and romance (of course).

The official synopsis:

'Divergent' is a thrilling adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it's too late.

'Divergent' also stars Theo James, Kate Winslet, Ashley Judd, Ray Stevenson, Mekhi Phifer, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, and Tony Goldwyn, and hits theaters in 2D and IMAX on March 21, 2014.
