This week we got our first unofficial look at Benedict Cumberbatch in Marvel’s Doctor Strange. Sporting a rugged beard, Cumberbatch certainly looks the part of the Sorcerer Supreme, and it’s given us a tiny idea of director Scott Derrickson’s aesthetic for the film. But what of Cumberbatch’s co-stars? Glad you asked! Today brings our first look at Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, all robed up and looking sort of like a mystical Jedi.

The set photo has been circulating on Twitter, and features Ejiofor walking and talking with Cumberbatch while in costume:

Ejiofor’s Baron Mordo looks as though he might fit right in with the people of Asgard, though there does appear to be a slight Asian influence on the structure of his wardrobe.

In the Marvel comics, Baron Mordo is a longtime villain of Strange, though it’s been reported that his morality may be a bit more ambiguous in the film version, which might combine aspects of multiple Strange characters. Mordo was a student of the Ancient One, just like Stephen Strange, and the pair’s antagonistic relationship began when Mordo tried to kill their teacher.

Tilda Swinton is portraying the Ancient One in the film, which also co-stars Rachel McAdams and Michael Stuhlbarg as Dr. Nicodemus West, with Mads Mikkelsen reportedly still in talks to play the film’s central villain. Rumors suggest McAdams may be playing Night Nurse, which would account for statements made by former Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight, who previously revealed that he was unable to incorporate Night Nurse into the Netflix series because Marvel had film plans for the character down the line.

Doctor Strange hits theaters on November 4, 2016.
