Doctor Who’ must seemingly always contend with rumors of its current cast departing, and though Peter Capaldi has been confirmed at least for a second year as the regenerating Time Lord, less certain is the fate of Jenna Coleman’s Clara. Certainly not helping matters is the official title for the 2014 Christmas special, which along with a new poster, teases that someone will be having their “Last Christmas!”

We got a taste of Nick Frost’s turn as jolly-old St. Nick by the ‘Doctor Who’ season 8 finale “Death in Heaven,” as well as our first clip from the Christmas special, though the title “Last Christmas” could certainly suggest an ominous fate for Clara, or perhaps more literally, dipping into the series’ own past a bit. The BBC has also released the special’s official key art, in addition to the latest synopsis::

It’s Christmas in the North Pole when the Doctor and Clara return to BBC AMERICA in an all-new Christmas special. Last year’s special featured the emotional regeneration that marked the start of Peter Capaldi’s run as the Twelfth Doctor. This year the Time Lord and his companion are in for an all-new adventure as stars Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are joined by Nick Frost (The Worlds End, Shaun of the Dead) as Santa Claus!

Previously announced guest stars include Michael Troughton (Breathless, The New Statesman), son of Second Doctor Patrick Troughton, Natalie Gumede (Coronation Street, Strictly Come Dancing), Faye Marsay (Pride, The White Queen), and Nathan McMullen (Misfits, Casualty). Written by Emmy Award winner Steven Moffat (Sherlock, Coupling) and directed by Paul Wilmshurst (Strike Back, Combat Kids), the 2014 Christmas Special will air on BBC AMERICA.

See for yourself in the first poster below, along with the prior sneak peek up above, and tell us in the comments what you want to see when ‘Doctor Who’ defends Clara’s “Last Christmas” against Santa Claus himself in the 2014 Christmas special!
