Doctor Who spinoff Class will debut abroad much sooner than Season 10’s actual premiere, and ahead of a New York Comic-Con bow, a first look is already here. Go inside Coal Hill with two new featurettes from the spinoff series, including a look at Peter Capaldi back in action.

The BBC debuted two new behind-the-scenes featurettes for its upcoming Doctor Who spinoff, featuring a first look at the Class cast in action. You’ll also hear YA writer Patrick Ness laying out his vision for the series, wanting to “look at the Doctor Who universe from a different perspective.”

So reads the new synopsis:

It’s a new term at Coal Hill Academy, and students are preparing for their Autumn Prom. But when the school comes under attack, four alienated students must form an unlikely alliance to defeat them. And this incursion is only the beginning.

Charlie (Greg Austin), April (Sophie Hopkins), Ram (Fady Elsayed) and Tanya (Vivian Oparah), assisted by their physics teacher Miss Quill (Katherine Kelly), are charged with a great responsibility by the mysterious alien known as the Doctor (Capaldi) to guard against the creatures of nightmare that want nothing more than to find a way through to Earth and take it for their own.

Patrick Ness has aimed to create intriguing and complex characters that have to navigate their way through more than just teenage hormones, exams and detention. Joining them as series regulars are Jordan Renzo (Chosen, Troubled), Pooky Quesnel (The A Word, Accused), Nigel Betts (Boy Meets Girl, Doctor Who). The first two episodes of the Doctor Who spinoff also feature Ben Peel (The Fall, Vampire Academy), Anna Shaffer (Harry Potter, Hollyoaks), Paul Marc Davies (Doctor Who, Torchwood), and Shannon Murray (The Totally Senseless Gameshow).

We’ll learn plenty more of Doctor Who’s spinoff from NYCC, but what do we make of the first Class sneak peek?
