This might be the best thing you’ll hear all day. While promoting their upcoming ‘Three Stooges’ comedy over the weekend, Peter and Bobby Farrelly confirmed that their rumored sequel to ‘Dumb and Dumber’ is going into production later this year and that Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are confirmed to reprise the roles they made famous in 1994.

So at least something good has come out of a ‘Three Stooges’ event.

The Farrellys told ComingSoon.net that they are going into production in September. They emphasized to the site that they had nothing to do with the disappointing prequel that featured younger versions of Harry and Lloyd, and that they want to put the series back on track.

Director Peter Farrelly said:

“We've always wanted to do a sequel and finally Jim called up.  Jeff always wanted to do it. We always wanted to do it. Jim was busy, but he called and said, 'We've got to do this thing again.' He had just watched 'Dumb and Dumber' and he said, 'This is the perfect sequel. Let's do it.'"

He’s right. It is perfect. Well, the original film is perfect. Can a sequel live up?

The Farrellys were on a red-hot streak at the start of their career, going from ‘Dumb’ to ‘Kingpin’ and ‘There’s Something About Mary.’ Their most recent films haven’t reached the same level, but maybe a reunion with the empty-headed, big-hearted Harry and Lloyd is exactly what they need to get back to their comedic roots.

We’ll keep you posted on developments, but it’s possible that we could see a ‘Dumb and Dumber’ sequel in 2013.
