An interview with Eiji Aonuma revealed his desire to break away from traditional Legend of Zelda mechanics to create something truly new.

An article on IGN features some of Aonuma's translated quotes from his interview with the Japanese website, 4gamer. The article delves into one of Aonuma's previous quotes, in which he said that he was "tired of making Zelda games." Aonuma clarified and said that he was tired of making Zelda games with the same formula; he wants to break free from the traditional model.

He said, "If we don't change that, we can't make something new. We're slightly approaching The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds with that mindset, and also the next Zelda title, which we intend to continue changing. However, this brings us to the topic: exactly what is The Legend of Zelda about?"

At least when it comes to the new Zelda titles, like the new Wii U Zelda, Aonuma said that they're trying new things and incorporating some of the new HD features from Wind Waker HD. Some of the new features he'd like to include make even more use of the Wii U's GamePad.

We'll have to wait until the Zelda event at New York Comic Con 2013 in order to find out if he'll divulge more information about this upcoming title. But until then, click on the links above to see the rest of the interview.
