The first trailer for mountain-climbing thriller Everest will arrive tomorrow, but until then, Universal has released new photos from the film, featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin and a whole lot of snowy bearded fun. Okay, maybe not fun, as this is a survival drama and things are going to get pretty unpleasant. Those beards may be all that stands between them and frostbitten chins.

Everest comes from director Baltasur Kormakur (2 Guns), and tells the true life story of eight people who found themselves stranded while scaling Mount Everest in 1996. As you might imagine, things took a pretty bleak turn. The above photos debuted over at People, and show off the film’s incredibly chilly setting (and bears, much beards). Here's the official synopsis:

Inspired by the incredible events surrounding an attempt to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, EVEREST documents the awe-inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind.  Their mettle tested by the harshest elements found on the planet, the climbers will face nearly impossible obstacles as a lifelong obsession becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival.

Everest also stars John Hawkes, Martin Henderson, Emily Watson and Michael Kelly, and will hit theaters in 2D, 3D and IMAX on September 18. Check back tomorrow for the first trailer!
