The fifth and final season of Falling Skies will firmly close out the Stephen Spielberg alien drama’s battle for earth, but until then, we have a galaxy of questions over what befell everyone after the Season 4 finale. Thankfully, the first half of the final season has a new round of episode synopses to tease Falling Skies’ latest, while Noah Wyle suggests not everyone will emerge unscathed.

Speaking with TVLine, Wyle acknowledged that a series of changing showrunners over the years have given the series somewhat of a divided tone, saying “This has not been the easiest show to do. [That many] showrunners in five seasons is a bit of a record, and you feel that sort of ‘schizophrenia’ in the writing. It’s reinvented itself a couple different times.”

In addition to Wyle’s tease of some expected casualties along the way (“We thin the herd…Not everybody makes it to the finish line.”), TNT has also revealed the first five episode synopses of the season, which pick up with Tom’s beamer drifting into space, straight into the path of yet another alien race:

Episode 5.01 - Find Your Warrior

Tom’s life hangs in the balance as his beamer drifts into space; Tom encounters a surprising guest.

Episode 5.02 - Hunger Pains

A surprise skitter attack leaves the 2nd Mass without food; Tom and Anne make a discovery.

Episode 5.03 - Hatchlings

The 2nd Mass discovers the source for the supply of enemy forces; Hal disobeys his father.

Episode 5.04 - Pope Breaks Bad

A mission to procure vehicles and fuel goes awry; Cochise shares troubling news with Anne.

Episode 5.05 - Non-Essential Personnel

The 2nd Mass leaves Chinatown; a deranged gunman takes Weaver hostage; Tom sets out to rescue Hal.

So reads the official Season 5 press release:

As season five opens, all breed of beast and mutant are running rampant on earth. The Espheni’s power core has been destroyed, and humans are now ready to fight on their terms, even if it means resorting to hand-to-hand combat against the enemy. After four years of being tortured, imprisoned and mutated and having their loved ones stolen from them, Tom and the 2nd Mass are filled with rage, ready to destroy the enemy in an all-out battle to determine the fate of Earth.

Falling Skies Season 5 premieres on Sunday, June 28, for which we’ve included the latest trailer below. What should the final season of TNT’s alien actioner bring to the table this time around?
