We already knew TNT would renew 'Falling Skies' for season 3 -- after just killing it in season 2 with something like 5.9 million viewers, how they not? -- but now it's official.

With Spielberg as the producer, 'Falling Skies' season 1 had cable TV's most-watched premiere of the summer, and by the start of season 2 there was already about 4.5 million people watching.

In a statement brought to us by Coming Soon! that just proves he loves the hit series as much as we do, TNT President Michael Wright said:

"'Falling Skies' is television storytelling at its very best, a powerful drama that's told on both an epic scale and on a deeply personal level. With all the memorable and surprising moments taking place during the second season of 'Falling Skies,' we can't wait to see what DreamWorks Television and 'Falling Skies'' terrific production team and cast members have in store for season 3."

As are we, Mr. Wright. Hopefully we'll find out a lot more details for the new season at the Comic-Con 2012 'Falling Skies' panel set for Friday at 4:30 p.m. in room 6BCF of the San Diego Convention Center.

Also getting the thumbs up from TNT are season 4 of 'Dallas' and 'Rizzoli & Isles,' and 'Southland's' season 5.
