Ron Perlman has long been the sort of actor who can perform beautifully both as a regular human and under loads of make-up and prosthetics, which makes his casting in Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them exciting — is he playing a Fantastic Beast, or one of those who finds them? Fans of Perlman in heavy make-up can rejoice because he’s playing a beast…sort of.

THR reports that Perlman has joined the cast of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, in which he’ll play a goblin. Fans of the Harry Potter franchise may be a little confused, since previous films have featured goblins and they are often very small (Warwick Davis played one of them). But maybe this is a different kind of goblin? Like a goblin king? The film does take place in New York, and everything is bigger in America, right?

Harry Potter franchise vet David Yates is directing the film with author J.K. Rowling making her screenwriting debut on the film, which is the first in a planned trilogy. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, a magizoologist and author of the fictional textbook of the same name, which was featured in both the Harry Potter films and novels. Joining Redmayne are Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, Colin Farrell, Jon Voight, Samantha Morton, Carmen Ejogo, Alison Sudol and Gemma Chan.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters on November 18, 2016.
