Fantastic Fest is arguably the best film festival in the world. Yes, the world. If not the best, at least the most fun. The first wave of programming has been announced for the annual festival running from September 20-27 at the Alamo Drafthouse's South Lamar location in Austin, Texas, and it's every bit as weird and wonderful as we expected.

While 'Frankenweenie' was announced as the opening night film a while back, there's another big title joining in on the fun as 'Dredd 3D' starring Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, and Lena Headey gets a red carpet premiere. The film follows a futuristic society in which Judges act as police, jury, and executioner. One Judge, Dredd, is put to the ultimate test as he fights to stop a drug lord who is distributing a dangerous new drug called "Slow-Mo."

There's also a ton of great genre stuff, including a special House of Psychotic Women sidebar hosted by Kier-La Janisse. Read the official press release below for more info on that and the first wave of programming, and keep your eyes here for even more programming as it's announced!

The festival is also pleased to announce the House of Psychotic Women sidebar, hosted by author and former Drafthouse programmer Kier-la Janisse.  Kier-la will be introducing each show and signing copies of her book afterwards. House of Psychotic Women is an autobiographical exploration of female neurosis in horror and exploitation films. Anecdotes and memories interweave with film history, criticism, trivia and confrontational imagery to create a reflective personal history and examination of female madness, both onscreen and off.
