We’re just a few weeks out from the release of Fantastic Four, one of our last blockbusters of the summer movie season, and our last superhero film of the year. Although general response to Josh Trank’s reboot has been tepid so far, there’s plenty of appeal in some of these TV spots and trailers, like the latest, which is made up of almost entirely new footage and gives us another look at Dr. Doom.

Obviously the biggest draw of the film is the cast: Michael B. Jordan’s Johnny Storm, Kate Mara’s Sue, Miles Teller’s Reed Richards and Jamie Bell’s Ben Grimm. That’s quite a charismatic assemblage, and like the more recent promos, this one leans heavily on the “humanity” of the characters and how relatable they are. We learn in the new spot that the quartet has been locked up after they’ve been gifted with powers, and Sue makes a case for why they aren’t the ones to be feared. Cue shot of Toby Kebbell’s Dr. Doom.

I kind of like the look of Doom in the reboot — it’s definitely not expected or basic, and just about anything is better than Fox’s first attempt at Fantastic Four.

“Fantastic Four,” a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

Fantastic Four also stars Tim Blake Nelson and Reg E. Cathey, and hits theaters on August 7.
