Remember that book you loved as a child, that featured simple black and white illustrations of a Spanish bull who’d rather smell flowers and sit under his favorite cork tree than get riled and fight a bunch of dudes with pointy sticks in an arena? Well, it’s a movie now, and none other than John Cena is voicing the titular Ferdinand, whose chance encounter with the back end of a bee sends him packed into a truck and hauled off to the bullfights. There’s just one wrinkle: he won’t fight.

This movie updates the book wit a few new characters: an eyerolling goat, some prissy German horses, and a comedy troupe made up of three hedgehogs named Uno, Dos, and Cuatro. (“We do not speak of Tres.”) Ferdinand must escape the bull arena and make it back alive to his human friend Nina, and maybe rescue his new bull friends in the process. Also, there’s a Pitbull song.

FERDINAND tells the story of a giant bull with a big heart. After being mistaken for a dangerous beast, he is captured and torn from his home. Determined to return to his family, he rallies a misfit team on the ultimate adventure. Set in Spain, Ferdinand proves you can’t judge a bull by its cover.

Ferdinand also stars Kate McKinnon, Gina Rodriguez, Daveed Diggs, Gabriel Iglesias, Bobby Cannavale, David Tennant, Anthony Anderson, Flula Borg, Sally Phillips, Boris Kodjoe, Jerrod Carmichael, Raúl Esparza, Karla Martínez, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, and opens in theaters December 15.
