First 'Oblivion' TV Spot Stars Tom Cruise, Robots and Explosions

EDIT

How is it that the new TV spot for 'Oblivion' somehow manages to look more epic and exciting than full theatrical trailer? There's no denying it -- there's tons of scope and promise in this 40 second spot, enough to actually make us excited for a movie by the guy who made the sleeping pill known as 'Tron Legacy.' Watch the trailer embedded below.

As we saw in the previous trailer, 'Oblivion' stars Tom Cruise as a man stationed on an Earth desolated after some kind of invasion...but things aren't as they seem. Both trailers keep exactly what's going on under tight wraps, but they somehow involve Morgan Freeman, a bunch of seemingly innocent civillians under fire, robots, aliens and explosions. Lots and lots of explosions.

The whole thing looks incredibly slick and the fact that it's an original concept and not based on a toy, comic or video game makes us all the more interested. All we can hope is that director Joseph Kosinski can bring his A-level technical skills to a story worth telling.

'Oblivion' opens on April 12. What do you think? Has this new spot piqued your interest?
