It’s been a good long while since we’ve had anything (positive) to say about FOX Bat-prequel Gotham, but with Jim Gordon, baby Bruce and all the rest getting ready to return on April 13, the latest trailers finally seem to push Edward Nygma’s proto-Riddler off the deep end into full-blown super-villainy.

Be wary of potential Gotham spoilers from here on out (Bruce grows up to be Batman!), but by the looks of the series’ final five Season 1 episodes, at least one of the GCPD’s own will turn to the dark side. Not only does Jim get more violent with Penguin than ever, but so too does Cory Michael Smith’s Edward Nygma seem to finally kill a man, cackling with a nervous glee over a bloody knife. You know, with thunder and lightning in the background for subtlety.

Not only that, but the latest Gotham spot shows our first look at Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia as debonair serial killer “The Ogre,” who of course, becomes a love interest for Barbara, the show’s shining beacon of developed, independent characters. So reads the full synopsis for April 13 return, “Beasts of Prey”:

A COLD CASE IS RE-OPENED ON AN ALL-NEW “GOTHAM” MONDAY, APRIL 13, ON FOX

Gordon and Bullock inspect a cold case involving the Ogre, a serial killer who targets young women in Gotham City. Meanwhile, Fish plots her escape from the Dollmaker, and Bruce and Selina confront Reggie in the all-new “Beasts of Prey” episode of GOTHAM airing Monday, April 13 on FOX.
