‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ Images Heavy on The Rock, Snake Eyes and Guns

Most of the hype swirling around the summer movie season has involved superheroes, from ‘The Avengers’ to ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and the occasional Spider-Man reference. ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ aims to change all that.

A slew of new images from the upcoming sequel made their way online, giving fans the best looks (to date) of such mighty ‘Joe’ warriors as Roadblock (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson), Lady Jaye (Adrianne Palicki), and the legendary samurai Snake Eyes (Ray Park).

‘Retaliation’ is an odd sequel, one that continues the name brand of ‘G.I. Joe’ while, reportedly, eliminating most of the cast associated with the original film. But when you have major stars like Johnson and Bruce Willis willing to step in (as the original Joe, apparently), you can understand why Paramount would be willing to pull the trigger on a franchise extender and gamble on getting a fresh hit during the action-packed summer season.

Jon M. Chu directs ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation,’ which will be in theaters on June 29. Here are a batch of new images. The rest can be viewed over on Kino Gallery.
