‘Deadpool’ Adds Gina Carano and Colossus to Cast

Former mixed martial artist Gina Carano made a major splash in Hollywood with her debut film, Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire, where she was cast as a butt-kicking spy in a stripped-down, throwback action flick. The movie was cool and she was great in it, but it didn’t really launch her in the way Haywire fans wanted. Carano should be mixing it up with Jason Statham or Scott Adkins — heck, she should be the next Jason Statham or Scott Adkins — but it just hasn’t happened yet. She did have a small role in Fast & Furious 6, and she’s supposed to be in the new Kickboxer remake/reboot/rewhatever but she hasn’t come close to topping Haywire yet, where she beat the holy hell out of Michael Fassbender and choked out Ewan McGregor and was generally 110 percent awesome.

Maybe that’s the Carano we’ll get in her next big project, which was just announced by The Hollywood Reporter. They report she will join the cast of Deadpool, the upcoming X-Men spinoff starring Ryan Reynolds as the cult comic favorite. THR says Carano will play ...

...a character known as Angel Dust. It is unclear how she fits into the proceedings but in the Marvel comics, the character was part of an underground mutant group known as the Morlocks.

You can read the character’s Wiki page here, but I know how she should fit into the proceedings: by kicking Ryan Reynolds in the face, painfully and repeatedly, in a whole bunch of action scenes. This is her destiny, and she is highly qualified for it. Hopefully Deadpool will be the film that finally jump-starts her action career.

THR also reports that the character of Colossus, everyone’s favorite Russian, metal-skinned mutant, will play a role in Deadpool, though they did not reveal any casting for the part. In the main X-Men franchise, the character is played by Daniel Cudmore; given the cinematic universe model of all comic-book movies in 2015, one would assume that Cudmore would reprise his role, but we’ll have to wait for official confirmation to know for sure. But whoever plays the part better get their butt kicked by Carano as well.
