With Krampus director Michael Dougherty at the helm, we sort of assumed Godzilla 2 might have more of a sense of humor than its predecessor (a dark sense of humor, obviously) — and the latest addition to the cast definitely supports that assumption. Silicon Valley star Thomas Middleditch has reportedly joined the cast of the upcoming sequel to Gareth Edwards’ monster blockbuster, scheduled to hit theaters in 2019.

Per Variety, Middleditch is joining Kyle Chandler, Stranger Things favorite Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga and Straight Outta Compton’s O’Shea Jackson Jr. in Godzilla 2, which Dougherty will direct from a script he co-wrote with partner Zach Shields. Although Middleditch is best known for his comedic talents, the actor has showcased some impressive dramatic chops on Silicon Valley, which HBO recently renewed for a fifth season ahead of the Season 4 finale. In addition to joining the Godzilla sequel, Middleditch recently completed filming Replicas with Keanu Reeves, and has a voice role in this summer’s Captain Underpants movie (which is a real thing I totally did not just make up).

Godzilla 2 hits theaters on March 22, 2019 and is the next step on Legendary and Warner Bros.’ path to Godzilla vs. Kong, the crossover blockbuster that will see the two iconic monsters come to blows. Just last night news broke that Adam Wingard, director of genre favorite You’re Next and Netflix’s upcoming Death Note movie, will helm Godzilla vs. Kong, which is scheduled to arrive on May 29, 2020.
