FOX’s Gotham has a long road before its Season 3 premiere in fall 2016, in spite of some early teases for Season 3 villains, and it seems another famous Bat-character willl be making a live-action return. The series is officially casting for the role of Bat-journalist Vicki Vale, but how might the character partake in Bruce Wayne’s early years?

Where Gotham had originally purported to cast the obvious-sounding journalist role of “Valerie,” TVLine has officially confirmed the character in fact represents comic figure Vicki Vale. The character has a history in comics going back to 1948, but is well-remembered for Kim Basinger’s take in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman.

As to how Vicki Vale will emerge in the Gotham world, we’ll meet the character as an ambitious young journalist, with casting geared toward an actor in their late 20s. That’s a little advanced to be trading flirtation with a young Bruce Wayne, so it seems more likely Gotham Season 3 will find a more proactive role for the character.

Elsewhere, Season 3 will also introduce us to Gotham’s take on Batman villain Jervis Tetch, better known as the Mad Hatter, along with the Court of Owls, Talon, and a more true-to-comics Solomon Grundy than Arrow offered. Lest we forget, a certain laughing madman made a distinctly audible return in the Season 2 finale, and will likely resurface as well.

We’ll learn more of Gotham Season 3 in the coming months, but what other notable Batman figures should we expect to pop up on Gotham well before Bruce ever takes to the rooftops?
