The Small Screen Just Got a Lot More Superheroic

'Agents of 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' and 'Arrow' are currently wrapping up their first and second seasons, but by this time next year, they're going to have tons of comic book-inspired competition.

As everyone expected, 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' was renewed for a sophomore season, but the same announcement contained something far more exciting. 'Agent Carter,' a series that follows Captain America love interest/badass superspy Peggy Carter on various adventures in the '40s, is going to series. Star Hayley Atwell is the real deal and the 'Agent Carter' One-Shot short film that came on the 'Thor: The Dark World' DVD was nothing short of badass, so we have a very good feeling about this one.

Not to be outdone, The CW responded to ABC greenlighting its second superhero series by officially giving the go-ahead to 'The Flash.' A spinoff from 'Arrow,' the series will bring DC comics super-fast vigilante to the live-action realm for the first time in ages. If it's half as good as 'Arrow,' it will be something worth watching out for. At this rate, The CW will soon have a better connected DC comic universe than Warner Bros.

Meanwhile, NBC is officially getting in on the action. The network decided to move forward with 'Constantine,' the new series based on the truly fantastic 'Hellblazer' comics. If done right, this could be an occult 'X-Files,' but with a sharp-tongued Brit in place of two stoic FBI agents. Consider us cautiously optimistic.

And finally, this week saw the release of the first footage from FOX's 'Gotham,' which will bring Batman's hometown to network TV. What exactly does a Batman series without Batman look like? Uh, like this trailer, we suppose.

And now, we won't irritate you with a 'Batman Babies' joke. We're above that. Mostly.

Did You Know There's a New 'X-Men' Movie Coming Out?

You may not know this, but there's a new X-Men movie coming out. For real. It's called 'X-Men: Days of Future Past.' It's flying under the radar right now, so it's okay if you didn't know. There have been, like, no clips or trailers or TV spots or featurettes or posters or talk of a follow-up. Crazy right?

Okay, we kid because we love (or at least want to love). This was yet another super-busy week for new 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' stuff, so let's dive right in.

First, there's this brief video profile of Quicksilver, the mutant with super-speed abilities who assists Professor X in breaking Magneto out of prison. The character has proven controversial due to his awful design, but the footage glimpsed here is far more impressive than this wardrobe and bad dye job.

If you stayed through the end credits of 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2,' you were treated to a brief clip from the new 'X-Men' movie in a rare moment of one corporation scratching another's back. If you missed it in the theater, the clip migrated to the online world for your viewing pleasure.

And here's the latest TV spot, which has a few snippets of new footage and a whole bunch of explosive action and what-not.

Finally, the finished 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' screened for select members of the press this past week and reactions seem to be very positive. We'll cross our fingers and hope this thing lives up to the hype.

Prepare to Spend All of Your Money on These Toys

We're not ashamed to admit that we spend far too much time drooling over hyper-detailed superhero toys that cost hundreds of dollars, so forgive our saliva as we stare at this new 'Man of Steel' General Zod figure. Honestly, we're less excited about having a Zod figure and more interested in the thought of Michael Shannon living on our desk.

If modern DC movie figures aren't your thing, this equally awesome Daredevil may be up your alley. Bonus: it looks nothing like Ben Affleck's take on the character.

And if you want a Marvel figure that's also directly taken from a recent movie and not the main character, there's a new Falcon figure on the way that should satisfy your demands.

Oh, and then there's this Loki mug. Sure, it's not a toy, but c'mon! Loki mug!

New Look at 'Batman: Assault on Arkham'

What are we supposed to make of 'Batman: Assault on Arkham,' the new animated movie that takes place in the same universe as the Batman: Arkham Asylum video game series? Well, this new featurette gives us our best look at the direct-to-DVD movie yet, and we still have no idea what to make of it. Sure, the film takes place in a video game universe with its own continuity, but it seems to be borrowing a lot from the current DC comics universe, particularly the lineup of the villain-led team known as the Suicide Squad. The animation is appropriately gnarly, but it lacks the style and sophistication of other DC animated projects.

Eh, who are we kidding? We're still going to watch this thing.

Last week, we learned that Disney and Marvel Studios are creating an interactive Times Square exhibit that will transport visitors into the Marvel Universe. Now, we have a look at some concept art for the Marvel S.T.A.T.I.O.N. attraction, which will allow people to peruse S.H.I.E.L.D. interrogation rooms, Thor's "cosmic observatory" and Tony Stark's lab.

While promoting 'Godzilla,' stars Aaron Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen got grilled about their performances in the upcoming 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron,' where they're playing Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch. Both actors aren't allowed to spill any serious details, but we particularly enjoyed this bit from Johnson, who reveals that the super-powered twins will be a thorn in the Avengers' side:

"Just before I started 'Godzilla' I met Joss. He said to me, 'Do you want to be in 'Avengers 2'? There is a superhero I’m thinking of for you.' The thing for me was for him, 'Why add any more superheroes to this thing?' He said, 'No, there are these two characters that I want to bring in to like f--- with the Avengers and not be just an add on.' He told me a little bit about the writing, and I said that the only reason I would want to do it is if it is a character that can still stand out."

Finally, Disney CEO Bob Iger says that Marvel Studios is "just getting started" and that 'Guardians of the Galaxy' has "franchise potential." In other words, they're not experiencing buyer's remorse quite yet.
