‘Great Expectations’ Unleashes a Clip of Pip

Mike Newell's 'Great Expectations' is about to have its coming out party at the Toronto International Film Festival, as that's where it will be having its premiere, and if it's good enough then it might come to theaters in America. But until then here's a clip from the movie, showing the first time that Pip (played here by Jeremy Irvine) meets his benefactor (Ralph Fiennes) as an adult.

The clip comes from Empire, and it sets the mood for the scene, where Magwitch (Fiennes) reveals the secret of who's been paying for Pip's betterment. This is one of the big scenes in the book, so it's a spoiler, but at this point the story of 'Great Expectations' is (or should be) well known to English speaking audiences - there's already been thirteen TV movie (or mini-series) versions, six films, and one ‘South Park‘ parody.

But for those who don't know, here's the synopsis:

Based on the Charles Dickens classic, Orphan Pip rises from humble beginnings thanks to a mysterious benefactor. Moving through London’s class-ridden world as a gentleman, Pip uses his new status to pursue Estella, a beautiful, heartless heiress he’s always loved. The shocking truth behind his fortune will have devastating consequences for everything he holds dear.
