With 'Guardians of the Galaxy' fast approaching the start of principle photography, the movie's cast is coming into focus. The latest addition is Glenn Close, who's set to play a character that's like the intergalactic version of Nick Fury.

Deadline is reporting that Close is nearly signed on to play the head cop of the Nova Corps, which functions as an intergalactic space patrol. No character name is mentioned, though she is likely a Nova Prime. And as there's no previous Prime that matches her description, it seems she's playing a role invented for the movie. It's unlikely she'd be a version of Richard Rider as that character was found by Rhomann Dey. But it's possible Rider could get his own origin film at a later date as Dey is supposedly in this movie.

Glenn Close has had a very active career, as she's been nominated for six Oscars and made a smooth transition from the big screen to television with work on such shows as 'The Shield' and 'Damages.' She is probably best known to one generation as the bunny-boiling Alex Forrest from 'Fatal Attraction' and to another as the live action version of Cruella De Vil from the '101 Dalmatians' films. And like Samuel L. Jackson before her, she's a great performer who could prove to be a solid anchor to the material.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' is set to hit screens August 1, 2014.
