All of the trailers for 'Guardians of the Galaxy' have showcased a wry sense of humor, so it's no surprise that the new viral website designed to promote the film is as clever as any other online campaign we've seen. Designed as a site for a travel agency specializing in booking tours to distant planets and far corners of the galaxy, it's a perfect showcase for all of the bizarre and varied worlds that the Guardians visit throughout the movie.

The tone for Galaxy Getaways is set by the opening video, which showcases some of Earth's most beautiful vacation destinations ... before completely dismissing them as being complete worthless. Tahiti has nothing on Xandar, the luxurious home of the Nova Corps, or Knowhere, the sprawling city housed inside the head of a long-dead Celestial. It's a very funny video and to be perfectly honest, it's the highlight of the entire site, showcasing some new footage from the film and making the story look even bigger than the trailers have implied.

Still, there's fun to be had inside the site itself. You can plot spaceship flights from Earth to other planets, explore extraterrestrial streets using a Google Maps style system, play a few simple games and generally immerse yourself in a fake science-fiction website where all of the details feel just right. Some viral marketing campaigns feel hastily thrown together. Not this one: it's witty and clever and feels like it was made with love. We were already sold on 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' but this is pretty cool.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' opens on August 1.
