It’s been three years since the first Guardians of the Galaxy hit theaters, and according to James Gunn, not a single fan has been able to find that one super-obscure easter egg — though some have gotten pretty close. (And if you think Gunn’s pulling your chain, he offered $100,000 to anyone who could prove it doesn’t exist.) With the sequel hitting theaters next week, Gunn’s at it again, confirming that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 contains another one of those pesky, cleverly-concealed easter eggs, and he’s not giving you any hints.

While speaking with The Independent, Gunn was asked if he planted another difficult easter egg in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The director would only nod in the affirmative and offer a simple “Yes.” No coy clues, no taunting or dares. Just “yes.” As for the still-undiscovered easter egg in the first Guardians movie, Gunn said, “I am not going to [reveal anything], but people have gotten very close. So, I don’t think it will be very long until it comes out.”

As /Film points out, the answer could be coming sooner than you think — that is, if the easter egg remains unfound. Last September, Gunn tweeted:

It’s not clear how long “a while” is in James Gunn’s estimation of time, so it could be any time between the May 5 release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and the TBD release date for Vol. 3, which will probably arrive a few years from now. Gunn recently announced that he’ll be back to write and direct the next Guardians sequel, thus making a complete trilogy — and you can probably expect yet another obscure easter egg in that one.
