After what happened with THQ and Hideo Kojima, director Guillermo del Toro said he is walking away from the video game medium.

In an interview with GamerHubTV (provided below, courtesy of Destructoid), legendary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is well aware of the string of bad luck that has followed him throughout his journeys in video game development. As a result, he claims he is done with the industry and will remain simply as a fan and gamer. The Hellboy and Pacific Rim director originally worked with THQ and developer Volition on a project called Insane, which was originally intended to launch on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2013 as the first part of a trilogy. Unfortunately, development on the game was cancelled just as THQ was going bankrupt. Of course, we all remember the sleazy shenanigans of Konami pertaining to the cancellation of Silent Hills, which was to be a collaborative project between del Toro, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead fame. Now, Kojima is expected to be leaving Konami after Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain launches in just a few weeks.

Here’s what del Toro had to say about his ventures in the gaming industry:

I have proven to be the albatross of video games, I joined THQ, and THQ goes broke. I join Kojima, and Kojima leaves Konami. I have decided, in order not to destroy anyone else’s life, I have decided I will never again get involved in video games. Otherwise, I’ll join someone and his house will explode, or something.

The debacle between Kojima and Konami led to all kinds of negative publicity on the publisher’s behalf, such as the dismantling of Kojima Productions and the removal of the famous tagline "A Hideo Kojima Game" from the current roster of Metal Gear games. With Konami employees being forced to work under harsh work environments, I’m not surprised. Nevertheless, I admire Guillermo del Toro for being so lighthearted about the two years he spent working with THQ and the time he spent working with Kojima.
