Gus Van Sant's latest effort is shaping up rather nicely, with a script from Matt Damon and John Krasinski (who both also star), and now legendary actor Hal Holbrook is negotiating to join the roster.

Variety reports that 'Promised Land,' based on an idea by Dave Eggers, is looking to cast Holbrook  as "an engineer who lives in the town and opposes a corporate takeover being led by Damon."

Damon (who reteams with his 'Good Will Hunting' director on the film) and Krasinski will play corporate rivals in the film (is "corporate rivals" a metaphor for the fluttering hearts of women everywhere?) that finds Damon moving to a small town and shaking things up a bit. 'Promised Land' co-stars Rosemarie DeWitt as a teacher and romantic interest that compromises things between the two even further, and Frances McDormand will play Damon's stickler business partner.

So far 'Promised Land' is looking rather -- you guessed it -- promising.
