Halloween

John Carpenter’s ‘Halloween,’ released in 1978, became an instant horror classic — the film follows teenager Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) as she’s stalked by a masked killer while babysitting on Halloween night. ‘Halloween’ has spawned numerous sequels, a remake (with its own sequel), and has inspired countless horror films in the 35 years since its initial release. We look back on the cast of the film and see what they’re up to now.

Then: Jamie Lee Curtis made her big screen debut in ‘Halloween’ as Laurie Strode, the teenager who is stalked by a masked murderer on Halloween. Curtis’ mother is Janet Leigh, who starred in Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Psycho’ and whose shower death scene became legendary.

Now: Curtis went on to star in three more ‘Halloween’ sequels, and has appeared in numerous films, including ‘Freaky Friday’ and ‘From Up on Poppy Hill.’ She is married to writer/director Christopher Guest and is the spokesperson for Activia yogurt.

Donald Pleasence, Dr. Sam Loomis

Then: Veteran actor Donald Pleasence played Dr. Sam Loomis, who treated the psychopathic killer Michael Myers as a young boy in a mental institution. It’s up to Dr. Loomis to help Laurie survive the horrific night.

Now: Pleasence appeared in three more ‘Halloween’ films, and in John Carpenter’s ‘Escape from New York’ and ‘Prince of Darkness.’ He passed away in 1995 at the age of 75. ‘Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers’ was dedicated to his memory.

Nancy Loomis, Annie Brackett

Then: Nancy Loomis (also known as Nancy Kyes) previously appeared in Carpenter’s ‘Assault on Precinct 13′ before starring as Laurie’s friend Annie Brackett in ‘Halloween.’ Annie’s dad is the town sheriff.

Now: Loomis also appeared in Carpenter’s ‘The Fog,’ and made a cameo appearance in ‘Halloween II.’ After that, she starred in ‘Halloween III: Season of the Witch’ as Linda Challis. Her last acting credit is a role in the 1992 made-for-TV movie ‘Lady Boss.’ After she retired from acting, Loomis worked as a sculptor in Los Angeles.

P.J. Soles, Lynda van der Klok

Then: John Carpenter wrote the role of frisky high schooler Lynda van der Klok specifically for P.J. Soles, after seeing her performance in Brian De Palma’s ‘Carrie.’

Now: Soles went on to star in the films ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll High School,’ ‘Private Benjamin,’ and ‘Stripes.’ Her more recent credits include parts in ‘The Devil’s Rejects’ and ‘Tooth Fairy.’ She was briefly married to Dennis Quaid.

Kyle Richards, Lindsey Wallace

Then: Kyle Richards, star of ‘Little House on the Prairie,’ came from a rather prominent family — her older half-sister is Kathy Hilton (mother of Paris), and her sister Kim was also an actress. In ‘Halloween,’ Richards played Lindsey Wallace, one of the kids Laurie is tasked with babysitting — and protecting — on Halloween.

Now: Richards had a recurring role on ‘ER’ as Nurse Dori, and has appeared on ‘Beverly Hills, 90210′ and ’7th Heaven.’ Richards and her sister are regular fixtures on ‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.’

Brian Andrews, Tommy Doyle

Then: Brian Andrews, a child actor who previously appeared on ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘Kojak,’ played Tommy Doyle, the other kid Laurie is babysitting on Halloween.

Now: Andrews briefly reprised the role of Tommy in ‘Halloween II,’ and while the character appeared again in ‘Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers,’ Andrews did not — the part went to Paul Rudd. Andrews starred in ‘Sweetwater’ and ‘Three O’Clock High’ in the 80s, but took a break from acting for several years. He can be seen in the upcoming film ‘Lazarus.’
