While the major network announcements of the past few weeks certainly stole the spotlight, HBO has a few major new pickups of its own to add to its slate of comedies. Joining ‘Girls‘ and ‘Veep‘ on the network are a new ‘Silicon Valley’ dramedy from ‘Beavis & Butthead’ creator Mike Judge, as well as a San Francisco-based gay friends dramedy starring ‘Glee‘s’ Jonathan Groff. With ‘Girls’ season 3 about a year away, and ‘Veep’ soon to close out its second season, HBO has continued to push forward into half-hour comedy/dramas with big development names. Via Deadline, we’ve learned that ‘Office Space’ and ‘King of the Hill’ creator Mike Judge’s ‘Silicon Valley’ will officially join the HBO slate, as well as Michael Lannan & Andrew Haigh’s untitled San Francisco project.

Starring T.J. Miller, Thomas Middleditch, Josh Brener, Lindsey Broad, Christopher Evan Welch, Amanda Crew, Angela Trimbur, Zach Woods and Kumail Nanjiani, ‘Silicon Valley’ follows “the high tech gold rush of modern Silicon Valley, where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success.” Judge directed the pilot, co-executive producing with fellow ‘King Of The Hill’ EPs John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky.

Lannan & Haigh’s eight-episode untitled series follows three friends in San Francisco (Frankie J. Alvarez, Murray Bartlett, Jonathan Groff), who explore the fun and sometimes overwhelming options available to a new generation of gay men. No premiere date has been set for either series.

What say you? Do either of HBO’s new comedies sound like they have ‘Girls’ potential? Give us your thoughts in the comments!
