Incredulous though we remain that NBC’s Heroes Reborn could happen at all, at least some of the show’s past stars have firmly chosen to move on from such a dark time in history. We’ve heard of a bevy of returning Heroes castmates, but who from the original group has officially opted not to be Reborn?

Following yesterday’s addition of Cristine Rose as the future-dreaming Angela Petrelli, Entertainment Weekly has definitively confirmed which of Heroes’ main original stars won’t return for fall’s Reborn, and little of it may surprise. Not only will neither of Angela’s children, Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) nor Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) return, so too will Zachary Quinto, Hayden Panettiere and Ali Larter officially sit out the revival.

Says Heroes boss Tim Kring on the matter:

Everybody who’s coming back has been in the press. We have a cadre of characters from the previous that will make appearances—some bigger than others, some just in a cameo way. It will be an interesting use of the older characters.

So reads the official Heroes Reborn logline:

From original creator Tim Kring, the supernatural phenomenon begins again with a fresh crop of inspiring heroes who take on the ultimate struggle between those with extraordinary abilities and those with nefarious motives to hunt and harness their powers. Epic adventures await these newly empowered allies as they cross paths with some of the original characters (such as the beloved “HRG” and fan-favorite time-traveler Hiro Nakamura), unlocking the mysterious fate of the universe and their place within it.

In addition to Chuck / Thor: the Dark World star Zachary Levi, Heroes Reborn boasts among its cast Orphan Black alum Dylan Bruce, Once Upon A Time villain Robbie Kay, Ryan Guzman, Danika Yarosh, Judith Shekoni, Kiki Sukezane, Henry Zebrowski and Gatlin Green. Returning from the original cast thus far are Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy), Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg), Jack Coleman (Noah Bennet), Masi Oka (Hiro Nakamura) and Jimmy-Jean Louis (The Haitian).

Heroes Reborn will premiere on Thursdays this fall at 8:00 P.M., while at least some of the new trailer was caught off-screen for a recent news report. Is the new series better off without some of its original core cast members?
