For a roller coaster of a 'Homeland' season that took us from Israel to an interrogation room, to Gettsburg and back, one of TV's best dramas came to a bloody end with a literal and figurative bang last night. And even though 'Homeland' season 2 didn't end on quite as big a cliffhanger as the Emmy-winning season before it, plenty of questions remain as to what the show will look like going forward. So now that we've seen the 'Homeland' season 2 finale "The Choice," what does showrunner Alex Gansa have to say about season 3?

Just when all seemed well for Carrie and Brody, Abu Nazir blew it all to hell from beyond the grave. Last night's explosive 'Homeland' finale certainly gave us a new direction for the show's third season, as Carrie works to exonerate Brody for the explosion that ripped through Vice President Walden's Langley memorial service, but what do the creative minds have to say? Entertainment Weekly spoke to showrunner and executive producer Alex Gansa about what's in store for the show's third season:

We know roughly what season 3 is. There’s some big muscular moves that we know will happen but there’s a lot to be filled in still. I think all of us on the writing staff would rather not do an impending attack that Carrie stops for the third year in a row.

Having said that, we haven’t found that narrative engine that’s going to take us through the third season so I have to reserve judgment. We’re looking for something that’s smaller, that is sort of a little more John LeCarre.

After last night's finale, it remains to be seen how much screen-time Damian Lewis will share, without straining the credulity of his current predicament. After all, Carrie will certainly have more to contend with than simply clearing Brody's name, including Abu Nazir's replacement.

What say you? Would you prefer a smaller, more intimate third season of 'Homeland'? Should Brody have been killed off?
