Adam Driver’s career has taken off in a huge way in the last year or so, and the proof is in the Star Wars pudding. But before we get a chance to see him play the villainous Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens, Driver stars in the chilling upcoming horror thriller Hungry Hearts, in which he deals with a different side of the dark side: parenting.

The new trailer for Hungry Hearts has arrived following its trip around the festival circuit, where it picked up a few awards (including four at the Venice Film Festival last year) and impressed audiences and critics alike. In the film, Driver plays a newlywed and new father coping with some very strange changes in his wife — namely, her obsession with keeping their infant son away from “contaminants” and her insistence on living a reclusive life, refusing to seek medical attention for their child. As you can see in the trailer, things get very unsettling and intense, and it kind of seems like it could be commentary on the anti-vaccination movement.

New York City newlyweds Jude (Girls’ Adam Driver) and Mina (I Am Love’s Alba Rohrwacher) have a seemingly perfect relationship. But things take an unsettling turn with the birth of their son. Convinced that the baby must be kept free of all contaminants, Mina develops fanatical obsessions with veganism, cleanliness, and purity that may kill the child unless Jude can stop her. With stunning performances from Driver and Rohrwacher, this intense psychological drama suggests that sometimes a parent’s love can be the scariest thing of all.

Hungry Hearts isn’t Star Wars-huge, but it’s another step in Driver’s ascension up the acting ladder, further proving his dramatic worth as he continues to cement his status as someone we want to see in everything. Hungry Hearts hits VOD and select theaters on June 5.
