The story of Dr. Frankenstein and his monster has been told and retold so many times that it's not surprising that we've reached the point where Mary Shelley's classic horror story has become an apocalyptic action movie. 'I, Frankenstein' stars Aaron Eckhart as the immortal monster-turned-action hero and the first poster for the 2014 release has arrived.

Directed by Stuart Beattie (whose screenwriting credits include the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movies and 'G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra'), the film is based on the acclaimed Kevin Grevioux graphic novel of the same name and takes place in a "dystopic present where vigilant gargoyles and ferocious demons rage in a battle for ultimate power." It's up to Frankenstein's creation to save the day and "discover the secret to his immortality." The film is from the producers of the 'Underworld' franchise, which should be immediately obvious once you see the motion poster (which came to us via IGN).

Do you think Shelley is rolling over in her grave at the thought of her creation being transformed into a blade-wielding superhero who will probably spend a great deal of this film leaping off buildings and slicing monsters in half? Probably not -- her work has been twisted and tarnished so many times that her corpse is used to it by now. If we're lucky, 'I, Frankenstein' will at least do a few interesting things with the mythology surrounding this character, but one thing worries us -- it looks a lot like Hugh Jackman's 'Van Helsing' blunder, no?

'I, Frankenstein' will arrive on January 24, 2014. If nothing else, the lenticular effect on the moving one-sheet is pretty nifty.
