Great news for fans of Thor, Heimdall and everything else that equals awesomeness -- Idris Elba will be returning to play the guardian of the gate in the upcoming sequel 'Thor 2.'

Elba confirmed in a recent interview that he was going to be coming back as Heimdall, the Asgardian guard of the rainbow bridge Bifrost who protects Asgard from any incoming intruders. There's no word on what 'Thor 2' is actually going to be about because it's currently in the scripting stage, but Elba did have this to say in regards to what he'd like to see happen with his character:

"I'd just like to get to know him a bit more. Who is Heimdall? He guards the gate. Okay. Is there anything else? I don't know what is in the script because I haven't read it yet. But, the audience has responded to Asgard and wants to know more about who lives there and what it's about. I'm sure, if they do that, Heimdall will be featured more."

Elba was one of the highlights of 'Thor' so it's great that he will be back for the sequel which is expected to start shooting this summer for a November 2013 release date. 'Thor 2' will be directed by 'Game of Thrones' helmer Alan Taylor.
