If you were itching to see Thor take on a massive, deadly whale in Ron Howard’s sure-to-be-harrowing epic ‘In the Heart of the Sea,’ you’ll just have to wait a little longer. OK, a lot longer: the film has now been pushed from its March 13 release all the way back to December because whales fare better during Oscar season, obviously.

Variety reports that Howard’s upcoming epic ‘In the Heart of the Sea’ will now hit theaters on December 11, deep in the chilly heart of awards season. That’s both good news and bad news: good news because Warner Bros. clearly has confidence in the awards prospects for Howard’s latest, and bad news because we really, really wanted to watch Chris Hemsworth battle a hellacious whale.

We’ve really enjoyed the first couple of trailers for the film, which have teased a gorgeous and transfixing experience with a fantastic cast that includes Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw, Brendan Gleeson, Jordi Molla, Benjamin Walker, and Tom Holland. Hemsworth plays the first mate on the New England whaling ship Essex, which is attacked by a huge, fearsome whale in 1819—it’s the real-life event which inspired Herman Melville to write his classic novel ‘Moby Dick,’ so you know we’re in for something pretty major here.

Too bad we’ll have to wait another 11 months before we get to see it. This whale better be worth it.
