In case you haven’t noticed, AMC remains short on original programming that garner as much attention as The Walking Dead. And while shows like Turn, Halt & Catch Fire and Hell on Wheels have held their own against diminished ratings, a success story like Into the Badlands isn’t about to be thrown away. The future-flung martial arts drama will officially return for Season 2, according to star Daniel Wu.

AMC has yet to issue an official renewal for the series, whose premiere garnered the network’s third-highest cable debut ever, behind Better Call Saul and Fear the Walking Dead. That said, series star Daniel Wu seemingly confirmed over Facebook that the series would return for an additional season, following the initial six episodes:

For those unaware, Into the Badlands is a genre-bending martial arts drama loosely based on classic Chinese tale “Journey to the West.” The series chronicles a post-apocalyptic America free of guns, and controlled by feudal barons, in which a ruthless, well-trained warrior Sunny (Wu) and a young boy embark on a journey to find enlightenment.

Created by Smallville team Al Gough and Miles Millar, the new six-episode series also stars Emily Beecham, Sarah Bolger and Oliver Stark, allowing a guest role for Avatar boss Stephen Lang.

We’ll see what AMC has to say of timing or episode order for Into the Badlands Season 2, but was the stylistic martial arts drama worth another bout? In the meantime, check out a preview for this coming Sunday’s penultimate installment, “Snake Creeps Down.”
