Surprise! 'Iron Man 3' has made a lot of money. We know no one saw this coming but the juggernaut that is Marvel continues to truck on as 'Iron Man 3' officially passed $1 billion in worldwide box-office late last night making it the 16th biggest film of all time, passing 'Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End' on the list. The only question left is...how high can it go?

Just in case you thought that superhero films were a passing fad, Marvel now has back-to-back $1 billion films with 'The Avengers' hitting that mark in 2012 and 'Iron Man 3' reaching the milestone this year. And here's the scary thing: it's only been 22 days.

'Iron Man 3' made over $70 million last weekend so assuming it drops about 50% this weekend and brings in around $35 million, that would push it past 'The Dark Knight' and 'The Phantom Menace' and likely into the Top 10 once international box-office is taken into account. It will surely catch 'The Dark Knight Rises' when all is said and done and could very well bump 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' out of the #5 spot.

Things will get more difficult for 'Iron Man 3' as 'Star Trek Into Darkness' opens this weekend and 'The Hangover 3' and 'Fast and Furious 6' open next weekend. But one thing is for sure: Marvel movies make a lot of money.

Do you think any other summer movies could make it past $1 billion? 'Man of Steel' maybe?
